Korzybski
Revisited - by Joe Sinclair
Alfred
Korzybski has been sadly neglected for many decades,
having been overtaken in popular esteem, in linguistical
circles, by such luminaries as Noam Chomsky.
To some
extent it is the fault of the great man's own adherents
that this has happened. Just as modern linguists
ignore Korzybski, so the followers of Korzybski tend to
ignore developments in the field that Korzybski himself
might have urged them to consider as an effective
modifier of his own material.
And if
he is remembered at all, today, it is more than likely
that it will be by virtue of his enduring phrase: The
map is not the territory.
Well,
it was a long time ago that Joe Sinclair was accused of
unfairly ignoring Korzybski in one of his books, so -
belatedly - he here makes amends.
