Stroking People to Success - by Julie Hay©2003

A stroke - in the sense given to it by Eric Berne of Transactional  Analysis renown - is a ‘unit of recognition’, or an interaction between people.  It is anything we do that demonstrates in some way to another person that we recognize their existence.

Dr Berne pointed out that strokes are a biological necessity.  Human beings experience great difficulty in living without them.

In this original article, Julie Hay defines the differences between positive and negative strokes, between conditional and unconditional strokes, describes stroking patterns, and then reveals how those patterns may be utilised to nurture one's potential for better relationships and improved communication.

Your Successor - Your Success! - by Terry Goodwin

The defining act of leadership within a company is that of nurturing your successors throughout your period of incumbency.

With his habitual commonsense approach  Terry Goodwin bemoans the sad  but all too frequent reality that senior people within organisations regularly try to protect their position by restraining their subordinates from developing their potential, and comes up with a framework for success.
