A
Winter's Visit - by Dannie Abse
Dannie
Abse has been described as the greatest living Welsh poet. He has the
double advantage of being nor merely Welsh, but also Jewish. How could
such a combination fail to succeed? Furthermore
he is a qualified medical doctor. Now this is clearly an
advantage. After all what Jewish mother would boast "My son the
poet?"
Nurturing
Potential editor, Joe Sinclair, has known Dannie for more than half a century,
but has spoken to him only three times in the past forty years,
two of which were to share sadness at a mutual friend's death. The third
occasion, quite recently, was more joyous, when Dannie agreed to our
reproducing some of his poetry.
Blessing
of Blessings - by

Phillips
Laurie
has set himself a target of writing 2000 pieces of verse in one year.
Whether or not you appreciate his verse, you have to admire his dedication.
When
a country obtains great power - by LaoTzu There
is nothing we can add to the body of knowledge of Lao Tzu, but we are
certainly able to point the appositeness of this particular piece of verse to
our contemporary situation. (No names, no pack drill - but also, no
prizes!) And, after all, it was only written 2500 years ago.
