"In Paris they simply stared when I spoke to them in
French. I never did succeed in making those idiots
understand their own language." - Mark Twain
The B-Word
is Balderdash! - by Joe Sinclair
Confusion reigns about what is and what
is not permissible language in public usage.
There are words regularly used in [what
used to be termed] polite society that are banned by certain
TV programme controllers, yet permitted by others. The
situation is even more complicated when comparison is made
between British English and American English areas of
permissibility and prohibition.
Here Joe Sinclair allows his thoughts to
discharge themselves somewhat randomly and enlivens his
views with some pithy quotations. |
