Ruth Carneson is a wonderful South African artist and has been a close and valued friend of Nurturing Potential's editor Joe Sinclair for almost thirty years.

Indeed, the walls of his home have displayed many of her works throughout that time.

In 2013 Ruth decided that she had neglected her artistic side for far too long and determined to re-connect with it.

She planned an exhibition at a cafe in her home town of Muizenberg for the month of November 2013.

Here are some of the exhibits, with some of Ruth's commentary.

"It has been awhile since I have shown my work and would like to share my  recent work with you. While I was working full time I did not create any art for a year and a half. Because of this I made the difficult decision to leave my job and get back to art making."

"During this time I had lost my way with my work and needed a way back in to connect to it. I made a commitment to my self that every day I would write and draw. I didn't know where I was going to with my work but needed to trust the process. Back on Track is a visual diary of that process of reconnecting with my work"

The following two snapshots were taken at the exhibition

Ruth's enjoyment of her experience is plain to see

Ruth's sister Lynn is equally delighted

And we at Nurturing Potential are also delighted that she has provided an illustration for the current front cover and has also agreed to provide artistic advice for our future publications.
